One of my close friends has been recently complaining about a fine powder being sprayed over nearly all of and inside the majority of cannabis buds. I have not smoked weed for years due to my profession and was initially dubious probably due to his state of mind.
But after seeing the various microscope photos including the electron ones I can see what he means. I was aware and did see in press (Eastern Daily Press) weed cut with large glass and sand particles. This new type of weed is potentially far more dangerous. My knowledge of the dangers of inhaling glass isn't great, but there is research which shows only particles smaller than 0.15um can enter the lungs. ANY FOREIGN SOLID PARTICLES IN THE LUNGS WILL DAMAGE CELLS, LESSEN LUNG SURFACE AREA FOR EVER AND BE POTENTIALLY CARCINOGENIC.
Also it should be noted that smoking causes your hairs on the back of your throat to die and they never regrow. These hairs bring up mucus which contain trapped contaminants, this is why a smokers cough sounds different to other coughs. This may mean contaminated weed is even more dangerous.
While bongs and fine filters may be successful at stopping sand or grit reaching the lungs. Any chemicals used to attach the particles to the weed could be extremely dangerous. I really doubt any of these groups would bother to consider the dangerousness of these chemicals as long as the LD wasn't high.
If anyone can determine the chemicals used it would be very helpful for evdience you could send to the government and the true dangers could be worked out (my inorganic chemistry is appalling).
WHILE THE DAMAGE CAUSED MAY NOT HAPPEN INSTANTLY. IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY IT DOES NOT CAUSE LONG TERM AND SERIOUS DAMAGE ESPECIALLY FOR LONG TERM USE. DO NOT SMOKE ANY WEED WHICH YOU DO NOT KNOW THE SOURCE OF PERSONALLY.

The first shows that cannabis is less carcinogenic than tobacco, not un-carcinogenic. The second shows that cannabis stops the reactivation of a virus when in close proximity to THC and is a long way of meaning that smoking cannabis is beneficial even for this form of cancer. :)
