I think that the sweet-tasting bud rather than gritweed has been treated with Brix. I read an article explaining the Brix scale, and how it is used in the winemaking industry to measure sugar levels. Its a bit long-winded to go into here, but have a look at this link:

[en.wikipedia.org]

It seems logical that the product name Brix is derived from this, and would explain why it contains sugars, and increases the sucrose levels of plants. I have seen some green that is darker than gritweed and doesn't crunch at all, but tastes sweet and doesn't have a "skunky" smell. It tastes a bit funny to smoke too. I think I am a fraction less paranoid about this over gritweed, but it still can't be good. At least it seems safe to make brownies with though ;)

this grit blaster has been in ipswich 4 at least a year now! and i know that i have smoked it and so has every other cannbis smoker in ips!!! my m8 has just piked up a kilo of this contaminated skunk! so ovbs everyone is still smoking it (well da dumb idiots) lool! i int touched the stuff for about 3 months now, but still i am scared for the future damage if this contaminated stuff has sillicate stuff in. this could mean many cannibis smokers could die soon from this bulsh*t. which is not good atall!!! ive been geting some propa nice mango weed just latly so im happy at the moment but how long will it last 4 untill i get da batch of grit again i try and make sure i dont get the stuff but some dealers lie to sell it on. so the question is are they ever going to get rid of this nasty skunk??

peace out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got loads of weed in helinki Finland now that is contaminated with what I think is BRIX but with small sandy pellets in. I went and bitched one dealer who acctully gave me my 500 euros back when I gave him the weed. I explained and showed print outs from Grit weed articles. He will still go on selling this, I know that, should break his head in, but this shit (which is of real good quality) is what he has to make his living of.

As said before, I done the water test, I smoked around 10 grams with cigarette filter, and do not feel bad, or a little bit maybe, but thats after I read this forum, meaning could be a placebo. A mate smoked this shit for months, and have had no trubble so far. However, does anyone really know what they put in? Why would the grower or dealer fuck up his customers? Is it not more likley that the grit weed that is around now is some form of Brix? Anyone knows?

Me again.
The grit weed we got was not like in the pictures or films shown. It is good bud, but surley contaminated, but it is not fat pellets, it is small oily grit bits on the bud, fat between the fingers, but barly able to be seen by when looking upon it. When chewing it, it crushes a little like very small and very very few bits of fine sand on the teeth. So I wonder if anyone has knowledge of bud contamination and Brix. This is both gritty and oily, but not to the earlier extent. I still wonder why the growers would want to kill their income, their customers?

- Can some kind of Brix be gritty and oily and tase a little nutra sweet?

- My mate bought loads, and is sitting on it, can we smoke this as we do with cigarette filter? until my own farm is going we seem to have no other choice...

Love
J

Hello all. This might not be much help but I'm across the pond trying to think of a way to help you all out (and if things go according to plan your problem will soon be MY problem). I have several scientist friends (who don't smoke cannabis) but I've been trying to get their input. Here's one response from a good friend:

My first line of defense would be to extract it with a solvent and get the active compound/s out of it and use that (I think they call it hash?). Second, it's not difficult to (with all the Consumer Reports special equipment as examples) set up a "smoking machine" and see whether you can collect particulate matter of any appreciable size on a wet filter (like the lungs). I imagine anything you can breathe in and don't immediately cough out is considered part of the respirable fraction, and will deposit on you lungs. You want this if it's just everyday pot. If there's something else there, a solid that may be an especial irritant, you need to talk to an environmental health guy, or a toxicologist, and find out what kind of particles (and what SIZE) actual deposit and LODGE in the lung. If it's silica and it stays there, that sounds like a problem. Smoke is a solution of solids and air, but those solids deposit on your wet lung tissue and DISSOLVE, and are carried to their site of activity by the blood. But something that sits there, and you can't cough up, I'd worry. This bears some serious investigation; pot smokers are human beings, too, and shouldn't have to die because of their "subversive" activity. What if someone were poisoning alcohol? Or cocaine? Try homogenizing some of this weed (takes a special piece of equipment which all biochem labs have, I guess) in a solution that dissolves the resin (likely an organic solvent), and centrifuging the resulting mess to see if you get sand in the bottom. A physical test is the one you need here, not necessarily a chemical one. Sorry I don't know anything else about this sort of thing.

some homegrown has brix init, which is obviously less harmfull than small grain of silica or whatever is used. i know that it is sprayed for a many weekes before harvest to get it into the bud. cross sections show it is throughout the buds.

i find it more than a coincidence that weed has gone from lovley pre 2005 to suddenly gritty and now seems to be a new type of sweet solution. whoever makes this stuff in the hundered or thousand kilos must be listening to the dissent. one question a realist must ask is that when a market is worth so much, why are the people who have run it and continue to run it trying to make more. ? it also seems to be linked to other forms of market extorsion, ciggarettes and alcohol, car tax, congestions charge cctv,

this is not neccesarily my opinoin but it was once said to me by somone of great importance that, 'whoever pulls the strings is tugging fuking hard on cannabis' a large change has taken place, no more individual salesmen, everyone one gets it from someone else, a hierachcy?

All this talk in UK of that this problem came cos of the grower busts is bull. We are flooded in the Nordics too, and the question is, who the fuck can control so many tons of weed? I am not doing the conspiration idea, but seriously, it is a lot of weed this grit weed, even in small towns in the great forests of middle Finland you ll get grit weed. How the fuck, and who?

The commercial cannabis trade is a huge multi million Euro (or pound) industry. Scary, isn't it?

I know Derek, if the god damn governments understood that maybe they could control it and get billions in tax money, while us regular smoker with jobs and lives could get real deal weed when needed. Just reading everything on growing, setting up my own production asap. I am really scared of the body damage all us grit weed smokers might have to face now.
And we dumb asses payed loads for this... Welcome to Finland, the dreamland for grit dealers...

God bless.

Oh they understand that perfectly. Why do you think that the growing of hemp which has no thc yet could be used as fuel to replace petrol is as illegal as similar plants but with thc?

Not sure if this has been posted but while I was in Amsterdam earlier this year I was reading a Newspaper in a Coffeshop and I come across this:

They also mention UKCIA funny enough! Glad this is being posted across the world not just in the UK.
