I would expect hair tests to show a fairly good longish term record on your drug use to be honest, depending on how long you wear your hair. I don't think there is a way to clean it out because the traces are actually within the hair, not on the surface as I understand it.

It might be a good time to consider having a No 1 haircut, or even a shave - something you are of course well within your rights to do.

Hair drug testing sounds a little unusual to be honest. Out of interest, what sort of job do you do?

OK :)

But the advice still stands anyhow I think, although others might be able to suggest some way of cleaning the hair I would advise a shave as being the only way to feel really safe.

So what sort of job does she do then out of interest? As I say, a hair test is unusual I would have thought, but again, maybe it isn't?

I'm really intrigues me as to where our rights stand here.

When you undertake an employment if the contract doesn't state anything regarding your willingness to undertake a drugs test in the future should the company choose to initiate it then surely this constitutes a change in that employment contract if they add this policy later. And as you would be one of the concerned parties in that contract doesn't the employer need to get your agreement to a change of policy within the contract?

I'm not usually paranoid when it comes to these things but it does open the door for checking people's fat levels etc to determine if they are more prone to illness thus resulting in more sick days and therefore putting employees on strategic redundancy lists.

It worries me when corporations get more power than police do in these matters.

How long is it before companies can demand to see logs from our home computers to see if we have interests that do not fit with company policy etc. (and it needn't be interests that are generally held to be distastful by society). This would be no different than examining employees body parts to see what they put in their bodies in my opinion.

And finally, surely there should also be assurances as to what the company will do with any information they retrieve from our persons or our affects. They could be re-selling this info to research groups etc.

Hair testing as Derek says is very unusual as the hair has to be sent away and tested in a laboratory this is an expensive way to test a workforce??.....As for cheating this kind of test I really dont think there is any way around it apart from removing your hair right down to the wood!! There r various ways to beat a urine test depending on what drugs u have used!! A saliva test is even eaiser to beat....sorry I can't b any more help, all I can say is good luck!!
