Depression Sunday 02 Aug 2009 Before the initial trauma and trigger I used cannabis daily. I got into the culture of cannabis as was prevalent in the late 70s early 80s. Alcohol was frowned upon and life was balanced. Having tried most pharmicutical products, going through rehab, and various forms of therapy [CBT being the most effective] in an attempt to rebalance self, they all failed drastically. Fortunately I began researching the medicinal uses of cannabis. By using it on a daily basis [smoked neat in a pipe] it has stabilised my depression very effectively and has allowed me to control my alcohol intake to zero. Recent research found "Cannabinoids promote embryonic and adult hippocampus neurogenesis and produce anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effects"[Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 115, Issue 11 (November 1,2005). Needless to say, profit comes before any need and the pharmacutical companies have the monopoly. Medicinal cannabis is effective in treating certain conditions and no doubt there are many, many more and this being the case UK law should be changed to allow the growing of x amount of plants for personal use. This would also dis-empower the drug dealers and users would have a choice with what to grow, selecting specimens that are known to have medicinal quality/use.
