Picnic 2001
May
5th was supposed to be the 2001 "Jayday" demo in London, but due to
bad weather it was postponed till June. A small picnic happened in Chapelfield
Gardens in Norwich, on the day of the Trades Council festival which is held every
year there. In
previous years, this event has been a shop window for the Labour party, but this
year it's role was much reduced as it turned its back on its working class origins.
However, there was a nice sound system there and it seemed happy to provide a
diet of chilled reggae and similar stuff as people enjoyed a toke on what turned
out to be quite a nice day. The
police did check it out, but seemed happy enough to leave the picnic alone

Norwich,
of course, is the home of UKCIA and the CLCIA, but this event wasn't organised
by either of these two campaigns, but needless to say we supported it. Photos
