Free Cannabis in Hyde Park 2004

25th September 2004 - Speakers corner, Hyde Park

To mark the anniversary of Cannabis Prohibition within the UK (September 28th 1928), Free Rob Cannabis distributed free Cannabis in the form of Hash Cakes from speakers corner Hyde Park.

He then led a group of friends and supporters up to Marylebone police station carrying a live Cannabis plant.

On arrival at the front desk, Free placed the plant on the counter. With this, the duty sergeant left the front desk and the rather surreal situation of a single Cannabis plant with no police to be seen was created.

During the time that the sergeant went away, possibly to consult with colleagues as what the procedure was to do with this situation, Free placed a copy of his statement and a few other leaflets around the plant.

When the duty sergeant returned, Free said that he was offering the Cannabis plant as a gift of Love to the police. The sergeant replied by saying ‘that’s very public spirited of you’. Her attention was then drawn to the statement. Free then told her that if arrested for the possession of a Cannabis plant, he would refuse a caution and uphold his right to a trial by Jury, just as he had done in the previous four times that he was arrested
for Cannabis related ‘offences’.

The duty sergeant then picked up the plant and took it away with her. As she was walking away with it Free said ‘I hope it brings you much joy and happiness’.
